As we’ve mentioned elsewhere on the site, the face of SEO is changing – not just the normal Panda style updates, but bigger changes to the fundamental methods of how search engines rank websites.

Enter Google+ Search Plus Your World

The biggest shift in the way Google ranks sites comes courtesy of the Google Search Plus Your World network. There hasn't been such a fundamental change in organic search results ever.

The Google+ channel is growing extremely fast, no surprise, given that there are over 340 Million searches performed on Google.com each day. Their massive reach provides Google with a virtual strangle hold on businesses and individuals looking for more search exposure.

While the user base for the + channel has just passed the 100M mark, we fully expect it to surpass 400M users by the end of 2012 – a growth rate that even Facebook didn’t experience.  Even the Toronto Star is talking about the importance of the + channel as part of your SEO strategy - maybe they've read our page?

The +Plus Impact to SEO

Aside from the obvious impact to search results, as the below image illustrates, the most important aspect of Google’s plan with the + network is its use in the ranking algorithm. It’s going to be another way for Google to weed out spam as these types of sites aren’t likely to have quality social signals, at least not the same way a genuine site with real content would have. And you can expect that the use of the network in the algorithms to increase significantly as the user base grows.

Whether users are logged in or not, the search results are different, favouring results that have more + network activity, or results that you’ve interacted with when logged in.

Here are some examples of Google+ elements showing up in the search results for Google.ca and Google.com - these are all new components and are coming directly from the Plus channel when logged in.

With Google implementing these components directly into the search results whether users are logged in or not you better make sure that your SEO campaign has a Google+ strategy.  You'll need a plan that not only includes setting up a business profile, but a plan for growth around it.  You'll need people and other businesses adding you to their circles and +1'ing you.  This doesn't just happen on its own, so your plan needs to include some creative elements to drive the growth of your + Channel.

Since January all our SEO strategies include some sort of Google Plus component.  With how in-depth we get dependant on the size of the monthly budget to have to work with.

So make sure any SEO proposal you're reviewing or considering has a Google Plus component to it, it's importance is going to see exponential growth in 2012 and getting yourself established early on will only contribute to your SEO campaign success.

Aside from the significant Search Plus Your World implementation, Google is working on blending all the data it has from it's various products such as Chrome, Analytics, and the search results themselves, along with the Plus network.
